Beltera Bespoke Embroidered Hat Art is created by artist and designer Julianne Holland

Each Beltera piece of wearable art is hand stretched and formed from the highest quality rabbit fur felt sourced from Eastern Europe. Julianne follows traditional millinery techniques by steaming and stretching felts over wooden blocks by hand. Kangaroo leather sweatbands are sourced locally from fellow artisans and trimmings can range from pure silk, leather, ribbon and vintage remnants that Julianne has gathered while treasure hunting in France & Spain.

 The detail that sets a Beltera apart is Julianne's breathtaking embroidery detail. Drawing from the many modalities studied under her Bachelor of Fine Arts, Julianne sketches designs freehand without the use of patterns or stencils and then using the lost craft of embroidery that was handed down to her by her grandmother, Julianne embroiders into the felt by hand with care and precision. Jules Chooses her colours instinctually as she stitches, working meticulously without the use of machines. Ensuring each design is unique.

Beltera’s incredibly unique process can take up to 30 hours to complete, this is slow fashion in its most patient and devoted form. Julianne was the first craftswoman to create 'embroidered hats' and has even inspired several copy-cats. However, still to this day she is the unsurpassed in this incredibly delicate and meticulous craft.
