Homegrown Mothers - Creative Expedition

Homegrown Mothers

Kemp Hill Creative Expedition

Saturday April 1st, 8:30am- 11:30am

Enjoy the company of likeminded mothers, as we explore the Bluff Point hiking circuit with a new creatively curious perspective.

We will start the morning gathered on the grass at the bluff point tail head where we will ground into our unique intention, our own personal reason for attending the expedition. Jules will lead a very short intention setting practice in our new visual diaries, give thanks on behalf of the group and run through what should be expected for the morning.

Guided by art teacher and ex Park Ranger Jules Holland we will gently hike into the natural spaces, taking in the coastal vegetation, mangroves, heathland, grassland, and open eucalypt forest from an artists perspective. We will be met with panoramic views of the Capricorn coastline and hinterlands, Turtle Lookout and Ritamada Outlook before reaching our viewpoint for our watercolour landscape workshop.

We will be encouraged to get curious about our natural surroundings with plenty of opportunity to stop and investigate the local flora & fauna, bush tucker, and wildflowers.

Settled amongst the grassland near the summit, we will enjoy our nourishing morning tea and take out or new paint kits and sketch books, all included in the price of the workshop. Jules will take us through some easy instructions and tips on how to create a beautiful watercolour seascape and seascape painting and the different techniques you can use to create different effects.

Let’s all take a deep breath of fresh coastal air and take a moment to forget anything else that demands our time. We can let it all go for a morning as we put ourselves, our health and happiness as our no. 1 priority.

This workshop is designed for participants to relax and have fun, Jules’ extensive experience in field guiding, conservation and tourism, combined with her many years of teaching art and creative workshops will help you feel at ease and well taken care of. Be prepared for lots of laughs and new friends made!

For those feeling like a salt water cleanse after our beautiful hike we will dip our toes in the ocean or jump in for a full dip after returning to the trail head.

En plein air is a French expression meaning “in the open air”, and refers to the act of painting outdoors with the artist's subject in full view. Plein air artists capture the spirit and essence of a landscape or subject by incorporating natural light, color and movement into their works. Students will be gently guided to discover their own painting style in a relaxed inclusive and friendly atmosphere.

You will learn that Plein Air Painting and drawing is a relaxing and incredibly rewarding art form. All painting supplies are provided including your own Plein Air painting kit to take home which includes an A5 visual diary, watercolour paint set, graphite pencils, brushes & charcoal in a carry bag.
