TERM 2 • Hands & Heart Kids Art - Ages 5-11

TERM 2 • Hands & Heart Kids Art - Ages 5-11

Term 2 - Every MONDAY at 3:45pm - 5pm (75mins)

(10 classes in total with the first class starting on April 24 and the last class on June 19)

Hands and Heart Kids Art stemmed from an ambition to create an inspirational and educational container for our little budding artists. I believe in the value of this program because I was once that kid myself. Sporty kids find their tribe early and have a multitude of opportunities to learn, as do our little musicians and dancers. Our little artists should have the same feeling of community and given the same opportunities.

These after school art classes are aimed at children and teens that have a genuine interest and are naturally drawn to creativity and art. Students explore and learn something different each weeks with some projects rolling over into the following weeks

New students will receive their own visual diary at the start of term, in our first class we will decorate them to make them our own and then students are invited take it home with them to draw and write in during the week (if they choose to, this isn’t homework). And then we share and chat about what we have created and encourage each other in class. Free time is allocated at the start of class for any of the kids to show me what they have been working on at home or school so we can discuss it and chat about different ideas, encouraging them to appreciate their art and critique it without judging it.

I also welcome my older students to ask my opinion or discuss any of their schoolwork, as well as topics such as studying art at university and the realities of being a professional creative. I encourage all students to ask lots of questions.

With my teaching in both children and adults, I encourage and foster the mindset that art cannot be good or bad, it just is. And we can learn and grow and become curious about why we do things in certain ways with our artwork but we don’t judge them. If the student enjoyed the process or learned something new then it’s a brilliant, successful work of art.

Aphrodite Art School is run from my home studio on Whitman Street. When the weather is nice we also have had fun making a picnic and creating our art in the garden. I will send the address to parents upon booking the class.

Price is $45 per student for individual classes or $40 per class when you book full term, I also have payment plans through the Laybuy option in checkout.

Spaces are currently only open for full term bookings. If there is capacity I will open up spots for weekly casual students which will be pay as you go.

I have split the age groups into 5-12 and 13-17 which is flexible depending on the child, if the parent would prefer the student to go up or down an age group I am happy to chat about that, this is more about finding a level that engages and challenges the student rather than putting them in a box.

As a child and teenager I was studying art at a level many years my senior, in fact I was only 14 when I attended my first Life Drawing (nude model) class. And while it was initially a bit shocking for that little country kid, it set me on a course for the most incredibly creative life and I am so grateful for the teacher who could see my potential.

Please let me know if you have any questions at all and also which day would be your preference no
